– Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist
Serving the TEENS and INDIVIDUALS of Brea and Orange County
I believe in the power of relationship to heal. I also believe in the courage of my clients. Therapy is not an easy journey. It is often painful to look fully at oneself. But, I believe that freedom that comes from the journey is irreplaceable.
I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. I have a Master of Arts in Psychology from Rosemead School of Psychology. I also have an additional year of study in Clinical Psychology beyond my Master’s Degree. I graduated from Biola University in three years with Bachelor’s Degree in 1999. I majored in psychology and minored in theology. I was the youngest student ever admitted to my graduate program at the age of 20.
During my training at Rosemead, I completed a one year practicum placement through Fountain Valley School District where I provided therapy to children and teens and completed psychological assessments. I also completed a one year practicum placement at the Biola Counseling Center where I provided in depth therapy from a psychodynamic perspective to university students who were struggling with depression, trauma, grief, sexual abuse, eating disorders, personality disorders, and anxiety. In addition, I supervised beginning Rosemead students who were learning basic therapy skills and guest lectured on group therapy.
After graduating from Rosemead, I worked as a foster care social worker for the Institute of Black Parenting which allowed me to more fully understand the attachment dynamics involved in adoption and the foster care system. I then began work in the School Based Program at Star View Community Services. I provided therapy for low income minority families and built relationships with the Long Beach Unified School District. After two and a half years at Star View, I felt I needed a greater challenge, so I took a position with Community Family Guidance Center in 2/06, where I am still employed.
I obtained my MFT license in 6/06 after completing over 3000 supervised hours as an intern. I then transferred to the intensive outpatient program in 8/06 where I began providing therapy to clients two to three times a week who were referred by the hospital or day treatment programs. In my work in the intensive outpatient program, I also provide crisis management and quality assurance. I began private practice in 1/07 in Fountain Valley with a group and then moved to my own office in Brea in 12/07.
My training has always been devoted to depth psychology. I have been trained to utilize psychodynamic and object relations theory. I also utilize cognitive behavioral techniques from time to time when working with children. In addition, I have attended various seminars and trainings on dream analysis, sexual abuse, working with teens, group therapy with teens, couples therapy, family therapy, and play therapy. I have also participated in my own psychotherapy which I feel is invaluable to my growth and development as a psychotherapist.
